Whitsitt breaks scoring record

The Decorah girls’ basketball team (11-5, 6-1 NEIC) made it look easy Monday night by defeating Charles City (1-14, 0-7 NEIC) on the road 74-21.
Both phases of the game were clicking for the Vikes. In the first quarter the defense allowed just eight points while the offense fired off 26. The Decorah advantage grew to 45-14 at halftime and by the end of the third the continuous clock was running as the Vikes held the Comets to three points in the third.
Knocking down 36 points, Yazmeen Whitsitt broke the school record for the most points in a game to go with four steals and three assists. Claire Storhoff was also in double figures with 15 points, six steals and five assists. Putting up nine points was Gabbi Dixon, while Renae Wilson added eight.
Decorah is off until Friday, Jan. 26, when the Vikes travel to New Hampton for another NEIC battle at 6:15 p.m.
