Strong showing for Warriors at Central

It was an all-out race Thursday night in Elkader as the South Winn cross country teams competed at the Central Invite. There were no junior varsity races, everyone raced against the clock, with the top-five from each school comprising the team score.
The girls’ team wrapped up the easy win with just 21 points over host Central Elkader’s 70. The boys finished third behind Charles City and Clayton Ridge with 86 points.

   The girls’ team wrapped up the easy win with just 21 points over host Central Elkader’s 70. The boys finished third behind Charles City and Clayton Ridge with 86 points.
   South Winn’s Billie Wagner, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, was the overall champion, winning the gold medal in 20:33.8. Josie Tieskoetter came in third overall in 22:04.8 with Megan Hageman on her heels at 22:07.7, to take fourth. Anna Dietzenbach and Karissa Wenthold crossed the finish line nearly together in sixth and seventh places respectively. Dietzenbach had a time of 22:42.0, while Wenthold went 22:45.1 to conclude the team score.
   Two other Lady Warriors made their way into the top-10 including freshman Maddi Jansen who claimed ninth in 22:53.2 and Ella Willey in 10th with a time of 22:56.2.
   Posting a time of 19:25.1, senior Hunter Wagner was the first Warrior to cross the finish line in 16th place followed by Omar Flores in 17th in 19:42.4. It was John Donovan taking 20th place in 20:00.9, with Abe Conway in 21st. Conway posted a time of 20:02.7. Rounding out the team score was Bo Wangsness in 22nd. He had toured the course in 20:02.3.

   South Winn has time to gear up for its next competition which will be at Anamosa Saturday, Sept. 24, at 9 a.m.
