Warriors nab wins over Comets, Eagles

It has been a split effort this last week for the Warriors who have gone 2-2 as the South Winn boys’ basketball team (12-5, 7-4 UIC) defeated Charles City and Clayton Ridge back-to-back nights last week, before falling to Waukon and North Fayette Valley Monday and Tuesday.

With the end of the season rapidly approaching, the South Winn boys wrestling team is ramping up its competition with a double dual at Crestwood Thursday and a dual tournament at Alburnett over the weekend.

Lady Warriors prep for regional meet

During the final week of competition in the regular season, the South Winn girls wrestling team was preparing for one of the biggest meets of the season — the regional meet.
The Warriors will compete in the Class 1A regional meet at East Buchanan at 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, for a ticket to state with the top two wrestlers in each weight division qualifying for state.

Addison Steinlage and her Turkey Valley girls basketball teammates don’t like losing, and falling on a late 3-point shot like the Trojans did to MFL MarMac earlier this month was doubly tough.
But the Trojans turned that heartbreaking defeat into a positive last week as they rolled to two Upper Iowa Conference wins — picking up a 44-34 road win at Central Elkader Tuesday and then played an almost flawless second half to beat North Fayette Valley 65-36 at home on Friday.

Moral victories aren’t exactly Turkey Valley coach John Izer’s cup of tea, but he’ll take them this season.
The Trojans found a way to bounce back from a disastrous 93-26 loss to Wapsie Valley and come up with two inspired performances in Upper Iowa Conference games last week, as they rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat Central Elkader 66-61 Tuesday night and then gave UIC leader North Fayette Valley a real tussle for three quarters before falling 73-52.
