Veteran five returning to girls state wrestling meet for Decorah

It was an intense Friday night of wrestling in Osage for the Decorah girls wrestling in the Class 1A Region 4 tournament.
Five Viking veterans of the state tournament are set to travel to the Xtream Arena in Coralville later this week for the state tournament in their quest to become individual and team champions, with all five seeded in the top five of their respective weight divisions.

Jansen will represent Warriors at state

Six members of the South Winn girls’ wrestling team donned the singlets Friday evening for the Class 1A Region 3 meet at East Buchanan with one left to carry on the season at state.
As a team the Warriors finished with 51 points in 13th place as Class 1A No. 2 East Buchanan ran away with the team title, tallying 230 points.

Viking grapplers win final NEIC meet

As the Northeast Iowa Conference gets set to dissolve later this year, the Decorah boys’ wrestling team edged Crestwood for the team title Saturday in Charles City in a round robin tournament.
Crowning six champions, the Vikings put up 148.5 points while the Cadets garnered 140 with five champions.

Big finish by Vikes to take second at conference

The Decorah boys swim team showcased its depth in the pool Saturday during the North Central Swim Conference in Boone.
Although Decorah finished second behind Boone in the team standings, the Vikes were the only team to put two relays in the top six overall. With many swimmers finishing their season at the conference meet, coach Loran Storts noted numerous personal records and time drops with six of the eight individual’s seeing three swimmers in the top 10 overall.

Kegler girls clinch conference title with win

Twin wins for the Decorah girls and boys bowling teams Thursday night sealed the North Central Bowling Conference title for the Lady Vikes, who remain undefeated at 9-0. It marks the third league title in a row for the girls.

That’s why with two games left in the regular season after the Trojans’ rivalry game at South Winneshiek this past Tuesday (see separate story), head coach John Izer wants his team to play with more consistency. That includes boxing out on rebounds and limiting turnovers.
