While the New Hampton softball team (3-1, 0-1 NEIC) didn’t have an abundance of hits, the Chickasaws had enough to outlast the South Winn Warriors (2-6, 0-0 UIC) in Calmar Tuesday night, 2-0.
Defense was the name of the game as the two squads went scoreless through the first five frames including a fourth that saw the Chickasaws load the bases. New Hampton finally broke through the Warrior defense in the sixth with one and added an insurance run in the sixth while holding South Winn to just one hit by Alyssa Timp.
Aubree Gesing took the loss, throwing all seven innings with four Ks.
The busy week continued Wednesday as the Warriors traveled to Waukon and will host Nashua-Plainfield Thursday in JV/varsity twinbills. Friday and Saturday, fans can find South Winn at the Jesup tournament.

Aubree Gesing (LP) – 7IP, 2R, 6H, 3BB, 4K
1B – Alyssa Timp 1
