Support for Goodner

By Ramona Nelson, Decorah

To the Editor at Driftless Journal – Public Opinion
I am supporting Cindy Goodner in the upcoming Decorah school board election.
Cindy was educated in Iowa schools, grew up on a northeast Iowa farm, has proven experience leading community fundraising projects, and is an engaged school parent.  She is motivated to serve our community and contribute to strengthening our school district
School board directors need to commit time and energy to serve the many duties associated with the position.  Most important, a director must commit to learning, listening, collaborating, and seeking decisions that support education.  Our district will be well served with Cindy on the board as the school leadership and community work together to find a solution for the elementary building, continue to develop curriculum, ensure safe learning environments for all students, and support staff development and retention.
Iowa public education and, in particular the Decorah and North Winneshiek school districts, have a long tradition of commitment to educating all children.  Prior to the consolidation, both districts were well served by local citizens elected to make policy and promote educational practices that served students of our districts.  Let’s come together to maintain the quality of our local community and our schools by electing Cindy Goodner to the Decorah school board.  Local control of our schools has served us well and Cindy is a leader who will commit to sustaining local control.
Vote early at the Winneshiek County Auditor’s office through Monday, Nov. 1, or vote at your assigned polling place on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
