Wayne Timmerman, 89, of Decorah, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, with Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Organist is Marlys Hager. Burial is in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation was from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and one hour before services at the church Tuesday. Music is “Lead on, O King Eternal,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Softly and Tenderly.” Casket bearers are Paul Steege, Kaye Steege, Larissa Rasmussen, Troy Rasmussen, Andrew Rasmussen and Elise Rasmussen. Interment is at Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia. Arrangements are being handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Wayne Curtis Timmerman was born Nov. 14, 1926, to Arno and Delyla (Bollman) Timmerman in Postville. Wayne attended school in Castalia and graduated from Postville High School in 1944. Wayne married Delores Osmundson in October of 1947. Three children, Gary, Kathy and Becky, were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Wayne farmed near Castalia for 25 years. He then moved to Postville and worked for R.E.C. for 18 years. Wayne married Betty (Schutte) Ruckdaschel April 19, 1985, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia and resided in Postville. They moved to Decorah in 1998 and then to Vennehjem in 2014. Wayne enjoyed his garden, refinishing furniture, playing cards, traveling and activities with his family. He was active at Zion Lutheran Church where he spent three terms on the Church Council, including one term as the council president, and four years on the finance committee.
Wayne is survived by his wife Betty, Decorah ; son, Gary Timmerman, Decorah ; two daughters, Kathy (Jon) Steege, Maynard and Becky Timmerman, Buena Park, Calif.; three grandchildren: Paul (Kaye) Steege, Cedar Rapids, Larissa (Troy) Rasmussen, Jackson, Minn. and Chris Leon, Buena Park Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Elise Rasmussen; brother; Kenneth (Mary) Timmerman, Decorah; five nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Joan (Sam) Gisleson, Luana.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Arno and Delyla Timmerman; and one brother, Cloy Timmerman.
Memorials may be sent in Wayne’s memory to Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, or to local charitable organizations.
