Wayne Schwinefus

Wayne Schwinefus, age 87, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, with Rev. Peter Kowitz presiding. Wayne Hegland Schwinefus was born on Oct. 8, 1935, the son of William and Olivia (Hegland) Schwinefus. He graduated from Ossian High School. Wayne married Marjorie Wells on April 17, 1955, at Stavanger Lutheran Church. Wayne ran both a can and bulk milk route. Wayne and Marjorie then bought their farm north of Decorah and lived there happily for over 30 years. After working as a supervisor at Camcar, Wayne went back to hauling milk and ran his route until retirement.

“Retirement” consisted of a lawn care business and driving school bus. Wayne had an incredible work ethic and was a positive role model for his family to follow and admire.

Wayne is survived by his sons: Jeff (Renee) Schwinefus of West Salem, Wis., and John (Becky) Schwinefus of Eau Claire, Wis.; grandchildren: Amber (Marc) Utecht, Andria (Sam) Hasz, April (Dennis Stitch) Mathison, Diondray (Aubrie) Premo, Alec Schwinefus, Austin Schwinefus, Kaleb (Sonya Flaten) Schwinefus; great-grandchildren: Dylan (Cassandra) Utecht, Sydney (Hugo) Reyes, Dylan Patchen, Avree Patchen, Jordan Mathison, Landon Hasz, Brianna Hasz, Draike Hasz, Braylon Premo, Brooks Premo; great-great grandchild: Foster Reyes; and sister-in-law: Jean Wells of Sumner.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, parents William and Olivia, sisters Verla and her husband Ray Schara, Donna and her husband Charles Schara, Phyllis and her husband Emery Leffler, Lavonne, and her husband Kermit Anfinson; father and mother-in-law Bernyl and Adele (Leik) Wells; sisters and brother-in-law: Derwood (Patty and Darlene) Wells, Darrel Wells, Marlene (Russel) Ungerer, Janeen Schott.
