Veronica (LaVerne) M. Stack, 96, formerly of Decorah, passed away peacefully in her home in Hillsboro, Ore. Nov. 22, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Hillsboro, Ore. Friday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. Veronica will be buried next to her husband at Calvary Cemetery in Anoka, Minn. Dec. 5. Veronica was born May 19, 1920, in Flensburg, Minn., daughter of John and Mary Jendro. She was one of seven children. Veronica married Levi G. Stack May 23, 1939, enjoying 60 years together, raising four boys, and sharing many adventures and endeavors. Levi and Veronica owned an office machine and supply store in Decorah from 1952-1959, living in a home they built on the old Calmer Road. They made many friends in the Decorah area and were parishioners at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. They moved to Rice Lake, Wis. in 1959, where they owned a men’s clothing store. They eventually retired to a home they built in Lake Delton, Wis. After the death of her husband, Veronica moved to Hillsboro, Ore. in 2002, surrounding herself with family and friends until the end of her life.
Veronica was a devoted wife and mother. She had a great love of life and was naturally drawn to people, making many lasting friendships. Veronica will be remembered for her easy-going nature, warm heart and infectious smile. She was active, engaged and independent her whole life. Veronica’s Catholic faith was an integral and central part of her life.

She is survived by three sons and their spouses: Daniel (Gina) of Hillsboro, Ore., Kenneth (Reidun) of Richfield, Minn. and Philip (Lois) of Hampden, Maine; daughter-in-law Marilyn Stack, Ormand Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and an older brother, Edward Jendro of Chicago, Ill.

Veronica was predeceased by her husband Levi in 1999 and son Robert in 2002.
