Ronald Allen “Puppin Pops” Nelson, age 51, of Mabel, Minn., died unexpectedly Dec. 4, 2023 at his home.

Ronald was born Nov. 8, 1972 in Spring Grove, Minn., to Stanley and Marcia (Mathison) Nelson. He graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School.  He had worked at Featherlite in Cresco, Kenny Quam Trucking in Waterloo, Croell Ready-mix in Rushford, Minn., and lastly was driving a dump truck at Bruening Rock Products at the time of his death.

He was a member of the Mabel Sportsmen’s Club and Sons of the American Legion.  He loved to hunt and fish, and drive his Allis Chalmers tractor at Steam Engine Days.

Ronald is survived by his mother Marcia of Mabel, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley; an infant brother and sister; and grandparents James and Norma Nelson, and Melvin and Madonna Mathison.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2023 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel. Burial will be in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. on. Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Mabel First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services at the church. Mengis Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
