Richard “Rick” Koshatka

Richard “Rick” Koshatka, age 72, of Spillville, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, Wis., following a short illness.

There are no formal services planned for Rick.

Rick was born April 4, 1952, the son of Raymond J. and Louann (Poshusta) Koshatka of Spillville, Iowa. Rick was united in marriage to Sue Pavlovec on Oct. 25, 1975, at St. Aloysius in Calmar.

Rick worked at Camcar, Upper Iowa Marine, and finished is working years at Cutting Edge Enterprise before retiring 10 years ago.

Rick enjoyed fishing (even though Sue most often caught more fish), hunting, the outdoors, family and friends. He could be found often in his shop where he could fix just about anything, watching Westerns, playing cards or putting puzzles together in his retirement years. Rick will be remembered for his quick wit, tell it like it is attitude, and potato pancakes.

Rick is survived by Sue, his wife of 48 years. Children: Kim (James) Rothmeyer of Ossian, Kelli (Russ) Smith of Huxley, and Ryan (Heather) Koshatka of Spillville. Grandchildren: Aiden Rothmeyer, Jackson and Samuel Smith, and Hazel Koshatka. Siblings: Linda Wager of Spillville and Raymond P. (Judy) Koshatka of Decorah. Mother-in-law, Nellie Pavlovec of Calmar and brother-in-law Robert Pavlovec of Fort Atkinson, along with beloved nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. and Louann Koshatka and father-in-law, Alfred Pavlovec.
