Reuben R. Praska, 92, of Cresco, died Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Hawkeye Care Center in Cresco. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery Protivin. Visitation was from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, Protivin, with a scripture service at 5 p.m. Visitation continued an hour prior to the time of service Monday at the church.
Reuben Rudolph Praska was born Sept. 6, 1923, son of William and Rose (Riha) Praska on the home farm in Howard County. Reuben married Matilda Malek at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco Nov. 8, 1949. Reuben loved his working life of farming the land with his John Deere farm machinery. Every Sunday he enjoyed playing euchre with his family and friends. He liked watching wrestling and game shows. Reuben could be found with a twinkle in his eye whenever he spent time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They brought an abundance of joy to his life.
Surviving Reuben is his daughter, Diane (Michael) Schmitt of Cresco and their children: Scott (Emily) Schmitt, Gregory (Sara) Schmitt, Kimberly (Kevin) Ryan, and Kristi (Adam) Ytzen; daughter, Janice (Denis) Lansing of Cresco and their children: Timothy (Missy) Lansing, Jeffrey Lansing, Jill (Kenny) Wicker, and Lisa (Dan) Lopez; son, Ronald Praska of Cresco; and 13 great grandchildren: Hannah, Paige, Claire, Grace, Bella, Nora, Harper, Jayda, Logan, Ashley, Brandon, Connor and Blake.
Preceding him in death were his parents, William and Rose; wife, Matilda, Feb. 13, 2004; and brother, Richard (Celesta) Praska.
