Patsy Herold

Patsy Herold, 85, of Ft. Atkinson, died Sunday, March 26, 2017, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in New Hampton. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 30, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, with Rev. Kyle Digmann officiating. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. Hymns were sung by St. John’s Choir: “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling,” “Peace is Flowing Like a River,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” “I Am The Bread of Life” and “How Great Thou Art.” Lector was Vern Phillips. Offertory gift bearers were Ted Phillips, Terri Balik and Becky Ott. Mass servers were Jason Herold, Jacob Herold and ZeAnna Phillips. Casket bearers were Andy Herold, Leon Herold, Lloyd Phillips, Tony Phillips, Alvin Herold and Keith Herold. Interment was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Fort Atkinson. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson.

Patsy Ruth (Holmes) Herold was born Nov. 15, 1931, the daughter of Oliver Wendal Sr. and Marie (Hodges) Holmes in Columbus, Ga. Patsy married James Herold June 8, 1953, in Lucedale, Miss. Together they had four children: Brenda, Linda, Paul and James. While Jim was in the service, Patsy spent her time raising their four children. She enjoyed gardening, specifically flowers. She played the guitar and piano and also enjoyed playing scrabble and visiting with friends. Patsy was known as a terrific cook. She was a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and the parish guild.

Patsy is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Alan) McKean, Portland, Ore. and Linda (Marty) Bell, Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Paul (Penny) Herold, Fort Atkinson and James “Zbart” (Candy) Herold, Calmar; four grandchildren: Nellie and Paul (P.J.) Herold and Blake and Benjamin Biesecker; one great-granddaughter, Star Lena Biesecker; sister, Rosa Octavia Constable, Covina Calif.; two brothers-in-law, Jack (Ann) Herold, Fort Atkinson and Jerry (Audrey) Herold, North Liberty; three sisters-in-law: Boots Holmes, Tallahassee, Fla., Becky Holmes, Cedar
Rapids and Mary Phillips, Spillville.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Wendal Sr. and Marie (Hodges) Holmes; her husband, James “Jim” Herold, Dec. 7, 2009; two brothers, Oliver Wendal Holmes Jr. (Buddy) and Joe Holmes; two sisters, Rita Thomas and Juanita McKinney; brother-in-law, Merlyn Phillips.
