Orlin K. Hovey, 82, of Decorah, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Private services will be held at a later date.
Orlin K. Hovey was born Dec. 30, 1936, to Oscar and Elizabeth (Bakken) Hovey in Decorah. Orlin was baptized at the Madison Lutheran Church. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1954. Orlin was united in marriage to Harriet Halverson Sept. 13, 1958, at Mabel First Lutheran Church. Two children were born of this union, Jody and Kevin.
Orlin worked for Nels Hattlestad, Reardons, Ryan Construction, McMaster & Keck, Ford Garage and Louie Crystle Ford. In 1969 he was hired as one of the first five at Camcar and later retired in 1997. Orlin enjoyed spending his time deer hunting, going to truck and tractor pulls. Orlin loved being outside on his farm, he was either driving around on his tractor or sitting relaxing in the sun. One of his greatest joys was his three grandchildren growing up on the farm.
Orlin is survived by his wife, Harriet, of Decorah; two children, Jody (Rick) Kuennen of Festina, Kevin (Brenda) Hovey of Decorah; three grandchildren: Krystle (Percy)Starr, Walker (Jennifer) Hovey and Nichole Hovey and fiancé Kevin Hotvedt; 11 great-grandchildren: Chloe, Sanaia, Claire, Rhett, Camilla, Jaxson, Alexis, Aria, Tianna and Kael; sister, Karen (Norman) Forde; and several niece and nephews.
Orlin was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Elizabeth (Bakken) Hovey; sister and brother-in-law, Roxanne and Rodney Grand; grandparents: Ole and
Marie Hovey and Knut and Bertha Bakken; father-and-mother in-law, Norman and Irene Halverson; brothers-in-law: Curtis and Robert Halverson and Paul Doubek; and niece, Julie Doubek.
