Nayton “Adolph” Brenno, 100, of Cresco, passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 26, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, as well as one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is at a later date at Lincoln Cemetery in rural Ridgeway.
Nayton Adolph Brenno was born Dec. 18, 1915, to John and Caroline (Anderson) Brenno in Sumner Township, Winneshiek County, rural Ridgeway. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lincoln Lutheran Church in rural Ridgeway. He received his education in the rural schools of Sumner Township. He helped at home as well as worked for neighbors doing general labor. He was drafted into the United States Army July 15, 1941, and served until his honorable discharge Oct. 5, 1945. He was deployed overseas Aug. 6, 1942. Adolph received many decorations and citations including the Good Conduct Medal, European American and Middle Eastern Theater ribbon, with one Silver Battle Star, six overseas service bars and one service stripe while serving in Patton’s 3rd Army. Following his discharge, Adolph worked doing trucking and hauling cream to Ridgeway creameries. For 13 years, Adolph drove a school bus for the Howard-Winneshiek School District. He married Irene M. Kach July 10, 1950. Together they started farming and milking cows, and continued for 35 years. They retired and moved to Cresco in 1988. He was a member of the V.F.W. post 4561 and the American Legion both of Cresco. He was a life-long member of the Lincoln and Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway.
Adolph is survived by two brothers, Walter (Mary) and Lester (Arlowayne); along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Janet Brenno; and an infant son, at birth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the Veteran’s Memorial Project in Ridgeway.
