Leland Kenneth Johnson, 87, of Iola, died Monday, April 27, 2015, at Appleton Medical Center. The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Visitation was Sunday from 3-7 p.m. at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola, and Monday at the church from 9-11 a.m. Interment was in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank Fox Valley Oncology, Dr. William Guenther, Jennifer Giebel and staff, Appleton Medical Center 7th floor staff, Riverside Medical Center and Iola Living Assistance for the excellent care and concern provided to Leland. He was born May 28, 1927, in the town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, the son of the late Casper and Alma (Larson) Johnson. Leland married Delores Norby June 28, 1947. She preceded him in death on Sept 11, 1957. He married Nancy Gross Oct 10, 1959. She preceded him in death Aug. 15, 1969. Leland married Ruth Erickson Feb 13, 1971. Leland graduated from Iola High school in 1944. He entered the United States Navy June 25, 1945, and was discharged Aug. 23, 1946. Leland graduated from Waldorf College in 1948. He was a very faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, where he served on the church council as treasurer for over 30 years and had also served as council president. Leland was the State Farm insurance agent in Iola for over 47 years, starting May 1, 1952 and retiring May 1, 1999. He enjoyed the outdoors — fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, ice fishing were some of his favorites. Leland was a member of the Iola Lions Club joining in 1957, charter member of the Iola Musky Club in 1970, Iola Community Golf Club and served on the Iola Village Board for nearly 50 years. Leland enjoyed traveling to Norway, Israel, Europe, Mexico and the United States. He also found much joy in watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events at Iola-Scandinavia Schools.

Leland is survived by his wife, Ruth Johnson of Iola; sons, Dan (Tess) Johnson of Iola, Mark (Rose) Johnson of Wausau; daughter, Lynn (Mark-Goob) Sprangers of Iola; grandchildren: Johnna and Teresa Sprangers and Danny and Jayden Johnson, Alissa (Aaron) Mitchler and Corey (Alex) Gleason; great-grandchildren: Talen and Rylie Mitchler and Quinn Gleason; sister, Ruth Sopa of Northfield, Minn., along with several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
