Joseph Kent Dougherty, 81, of Rochester, Minn., died Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Cottagewood Senior Communities. The memorial service for Kent is Friday, Oct. 4, at 1:30 p.m., at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Pastor Vern Chistopherson officiating. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation starting at 1 p.m. His ashes will be interred in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Austin, Minn. at a later date.
Kent was born in Rushford, Minn. Sept. 24,1938, to Joseph and Olive (Swenson) Dougherty. He graduated from Austin High School in 1956. He received his B.A. degree from Luther College in Decorah. After college, he served as lieutenant in the Minnesota National Guard. He married Karen Burke in Mankato June 2, 1962. From this union, a son, Scott, was born. The couple later divorced. He married Carol L. Hansen in Rochester, Minn. Nov. 18, 1977. The couple lived in the Rochester area their entire married life of 41 years. Kent worked as a real estate broker for most of his adult life. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who was loyal Minnesota sports fan.
He is survived by his sons, Scott Dougherty of Rochester, Minn. and his step-son Brian Hansen of Byron, Minn.; his brother, Dennis (Mary) Dougherty of St. Paul, Minn.; his sister, Diane (Gary) Hoban of Owatonna, Minn.; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
