Jeffrey Michael McCarty, 57, of Phoenix, Ariz., went to be with the Lord from his home Friday morning, May 11, 2018, under the loving care of his family, friends, and Hospice of the Valley after a short battle with metastatic cancer. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Jeffrey’s life at 4 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Northern Hills Community Church, 2740 E. Union Hills Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85050.

The son of John William and Janann Mae (Grindeland) McCarty, he was born Aug. 30, 1960, in Decorah, where in his youth he had been active in the Decorah Kilties, Boy Scouts and the Norski Hill along with his father and brothers. He was a 1979 graduate of Decorah High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Luther College. where he also sang and toured with the Nordic Choir.

In 1986 he moved to Phoenix where he spent his career in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry having worked as a sommelier at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort and finished his career as a portfolio manager with Quail Distributing.
He married Barbara Joan Clarke July 20, 1991, in Milwaukee, Wis., and together they enjoyed 27 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling together, and were members of Northern Hills Community Church. They were both involved in a number of ministries in the community, primarily helping children and the underprivileged.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara J. Clarke-McCarty of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Julie Ann and Brandon Lavoie of Brookfield, Wis.; his mother, Janann McCarty of Decorah; his brothers, Dale and Joleen McCarty of New Orleans, La., Dan and Kimberly McCarty of Peoria, Ariz., and Lt. Commander Michael McCarty, serving with the U.S. Navy in Naples, Italy; a half-sister, Becky McCarty of Iowa; his parents-in-law, Connie Dey of Greenville, Mich., and John J. Clarke of Gowen, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Julie and Dan Hyde of Gowen, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John William McCarty, April 15, 1999; and a half-brother, John William McCarty II.
