Jean Vincent Hardy was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Dubuque, to Roy and Evelyn (Raw) Holubar. She attended the University of Dubuque where she met Paul Hardy. They were married May 30, 1937. Jean and Paul brought their family to Decorah in 1949 to become the owners of Hardy’s Western Auto. Over her 67 years in the Decorah community she belonged to and supported many organizations, and she and Paul were very devoted to and involved with the First United Methodist Church. Jean did not want her obituary to include every organization she belonged to. If she was a member of an organization with you, she hoped you realized how pleased she was to be a part of it and how much she enjoyed knowing you. “I am thankful that I have known so many wonderful people all these years. I have always felt so fortunate that I was enjoying heaven on earth and you all were a part of it. My thanks to all of you.”

Jean is survived by her children: William (Therese) Hardy, Verona, Wis.; Jane Hardy, Decorah; Philip (Marcia) Hardy, Decorah; sister-in-law, Virginia Neville, Ladysmith, Wis.; grandchildren: Lynne Hardy, Kim (Leo Silva) Hardy, Kristin (Gerry  Ambrose) Hardy, Adam (Deb) Hardy, Josh Hardy, Rachel (Ryan) Gray; great-grandchildren: Jared Hardy, Kayla (Jerad) Ruth, Jackson Hardy, Violet Gray; and great-great –grandchildren, Finn and Beatrice Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her husband (of 76 years) Paul, Jan. 18, 2014; her parents Evelyn (Raw) and Roy Holubar; and great-grandchild, Colton Hardy.

Memorials may be given in her name to the First United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, 302 West Broadway, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
