Francis J. Zakostelecky, 82, of Cresco, passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2015, at Patty Elwood Center rural Cresco. Mass of Christian Burial is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. Family asks those attending the funeral mass to please wear purple for Alzheimer’s awareness.Burial is in Howard Center Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, IA 52136, with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues an hour prior to the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Francis J. “Frank” Zakostelecky was born to Frank and Abilina (Horkey) Zakostelecky in rural Howard County May 31, 1933. He attended country school until the 8th grade. Growing up on a farm instilled the appreciation of the land in Frank. He always was willing to help his brother and son-in-law during planting and harvesting season. Frank worked for over 40 years in the road construction business, 38 of those years with Holland Construction in Decorah. Frank had a curious mind and a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed small engine repair, gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking. Frank spent his time attending auctions looking at antique John Deere tractors, coins, guns, or belt buckles. He loved spending time with his family, playing card games or taking a ride around the countryside.

Surviving Frank are his children: Melody Zakostelecky of Cresco, Marsha (Mike) Hageman of Fort Atkinson, Vernon (Barb) Zakostelecky of Cedar Rapids and David Zakostelecky of Waterloo; grandchildren: Brian Beatty of Elkhorn, Neb., Jason (Jill) Beatty of Wahoo, Neb., Dustin Baltz of Tacoma, Wash., Nathan Hageman, Nancy (Dean) Franzen and Joseph Hageman all of Fort Atkinson; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Alexis and Jack Beatty, Jayden and Nikole Beatty, Bruce, Billie, Bobbi and Bailey Hageman, Steven Nesbitt, Isaac and Ryan Franzen and Collin Hageman; great-great-granddaughter Addalyn Nesbitt; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Ida Zakostelecky of Lime Springs; sister-in-law Ruby Wilson of Cedar Rapids; brother-in-law Robert (Phyllis) Reuter of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Helen; and sons, Joseph and Scott.
