Erik Busch

After a yearlong battle with leukemia, Erik peacefully departed this world surrounded by his family on Jan. 9, 2024. It was fiercely fought with courage, determination and hope, and always with family or friends by his side.

Erik was born to Rick and Michelle (Jensen) Busch on June 11, 1997, in Decorah, Iowa; and at a young age showed a curiosity to learn how many things worked, which followed him through life. He attended Lime Springs Elementary school, Crestwood Jr. High and completed high school as a dual enrolled home school student at Crestwood. Erik enjoyed working as a life guard and competing in motocross racing on many levels qualifying to Loretta Lynn’s National Motocross Championship.

Upon graduation, he earned his CNC machining technical certificate and headed to Florida. In the warm weather he could also follow other passions of motorcycle riding, weight lifting and fitness, beach time, car groups, and exploring new locations with friends. Erik had an ability to connect with anyone of any age whether you were 5 or 95, always finding some common ground to talk about. He enjoyed mentoring on the job and was always willing to share the experience he had gained. If he didn’t know how to do it, he spent time off work researching tutorials and tapping into the experience of those in his field. While helping others, he was ultimately training his replacement to work his way up to the next level in several machining companies.

Erik is survived by his parents, brothers John (Savannah) Busch and Cole Busch, grandparents Louis and Sharon Busch, Vic and Dianne Rathje and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Doris Jensen. Erik leaves behind many good friends who hold lasting memories of how he impacted their lives with courage, strength, and a never give up mindset.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on Jan. 22, 2024 at the Heritage Event Center in Cresco from 3 to 7 p.m. A private family service was held earlier. Lindstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to Howard County Cancer Association or Dollars for Scholars for a scholarship to be established in Erik’s name.
