Deb Nelson, 64, passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, Minn. after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper, Iowa with the Reverend Kurt Bockoven officiating.
Burial will be in the Hesper Public Cemetery.
Visitation was 4 – 7 p.m. Monday, at the Hesper Lutheran Church in Hesper.
The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel is assisting the family.
Deb was born March 14, 1951, to Andrew and Inez (Osmundson) Sollien. She grew up in the Mabel area and graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in 1969.
She married Greg Nelson Feb. 1, 1969, at the Hesper Lutheran Church.
They lived in Canton, the Mabel area and then settled in Hesper, where they have been for 42 years.
She worked at Burreson’s Locker in Hesper and Deco for 37 years.
She was a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church, and enjoyed playing cards, long drives to the river, their annual camping trips up north, fishing, and socializing on the deck with her family and friends, especially her extended Hesper family.
Deb is survived by sons Scott (Brenda Kuhn) of Stewartville and Ricky (Stacy Storlie) of Stewartville; four grandchildren: Amber (Jared) Bushman of Stewartville, Eric Nelson of Stewartville, Anthony Nelson and Emily Nelson of Stewartville; three great-grandchildren: Zoey Bushman, Kinsley Nelson and Jace Bushman; siblings, Andrea (Forrest) Folkedahl of Hesper and Tim Sollien of Mabel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg; parents; and two nephews, Troy Folkedahl and Curtis Wennes.
