Daryl Schmitt, 60, of Calmar, formerly of Fort Atkinson, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at his home. Visitation is from 3 until 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel, 201 Main Street, in Fort Atkinson.
Daryl Linus Schmitt was born March 28, 1957, to Linus and Veronica (Winter) Schmitt in Decorah. He attended St. John’s Catholic School in Fort Atkinson and graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1975. He delivered for Coca Cola for a short time. He also worked at Camcar for a short period of time. He then worked for Midwest Irrigation for 39 years, until he was unable to work anymore. Daryl was married to Robyn Kolaas in 2007. He enjoyed golfing, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Raiders and traveling to Arizona and Florida.
Daryl is survived by his siblings: Judy (Roger) Ott, Fort Atkinson; Sue (Al) Blong, Fort Atkinson; Dale (Norine) Schmitt, Bernard and Gladys (Marvin) Huinker, Calmar; sister-in-law, Linda Schmitt, Calmar; one niece and 10 nephews; along with two step-daughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Robyn; parents, Linus and Veronica (Winter) Schmitt; older brother, Gary Schmitt; and brothers Joseph, George and Patrick, all in infancy.
