Carol Leone Quam, 76, of Decorah, died peacefully May 14, 2019, surrounded by her family, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 18, at the St. Benedict Catholic Church at 307 West Main St. Decorah, with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial was in the St. Benedict Cemetery. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 17, at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 9:30 at the church Saturday. Organist was Mary Beth Bouska. Cantor was Don DiLaura. Hymns were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Angles Among Us,” “How Great Thou Art” and “Irish Eyes are Smiling.” Lectors were Erica Stortz and Don Easter. Offertory gift bearers were Carol’s children. Eucharistic ministers were Jay and Kathy Uthoff. Honorary casket bearers were Carol’s granddaughters. Casket bearers were Carol’s grandsons. Interment was at St. Benedict Cemetery, Decorah. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Decorah.
Carol was born July 1, 1942, the daughter of Joseph and Adeline (Waller) McCormick in Waukon. Carol attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 1960.

Carol was united in marriage to Carsten Quam at St. Benedict Catholic Church Oct. 8, 1960. She was the proud mother of three children; Michael, Theresa and Brenda.

Carol worked at DECO Products for 49 years. She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. When she wasn’t working she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Family was the most important thing to Carol. She loved supporting her grandchildren with the sports and arts they participated in. She was well known in her family for her famous angel food cake. Carol liked to watch NASCAR races and support Jeff Gordon, she was also a big Iowa Hawkeye fan. Her sweet and gentile demeanor will be missed by all who loved her.

Carol’s survivors include her husband, Carsten Quam, Decorah; one son, Michael (Deb Ryan) Quam, Waukon; wo daughters, Theresa (Randy) Stortz, Decorah and Brenda (Kevin) Hovey, Decorah; 11 grandchildren: Natasha Quam, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Ryan (special friend Janelle Reasoner) Quam; West Des Moines; Bryce (special friend Kelly Donlon) Sivesind, Cedar Rapids; Brianne (special friend Cody Massman) Sivesind, Decorah; Derrick (Carley) Stortz, Fairchild Air Force Base, Washington; Dustin (Erica) Stortz, Ankeny; Darren (Lizzy) Stortz, West Des Moines; Trisha (Cody Reicks) Stortz, North Liberty; Krystle (Percy) Starr, Lenexa, Kan.; Walker (Jennifer) Hovey, Nashua; Nichole (fiancé Kevin Hotvedt) Hovey, Decorah; along with 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Pat) Decorah and Kenneth (Mary) McCormick, Clear Lake; six sisters-in-law: Helen McCormick, Decorah; Jule McCable, Decorah; June Juve, Escondido, Calif.; Nancy (Ronnie) Zweibohmer, Decorah; Penny (Larry) Mestad, Decorah and Maribeth Rover, Waterloo; six brothers-in-law: Jim Ellingson, Decorah; Milton (Orma) Quam, Decorah; Norman (Violet) Quam, Decorah; Roger (Louise) Quam, Decorah; Dale (Evie) Quam, Decorah; and Alfred (Deb) Quam, Decorah; one aunt, Mary Waller, Poynette, Wis.; along with many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph McCormick and Adeline McCormick; her mother and father-in-law, Adolph Milford Quam and Gertrude Elsie Quam; two brothers, Jerry McCormick and Dale McCormick; one sister, Joyce Gates; four brothers-in-law: Roy Quam, Kenneth Juve, Robert Dahlstrom and Gary Gates; three sisters-in-law: Alice Quam, Shirley Dahlstrom and Elsie Lewis; six nieces: Janet Dahlstrom, Lori Quam, Donna Bergen, Dawn Bergen, Cindy Burdick and Melita Quam; two nephews, Terry McCormick and Kyle McCormick.
