Alvin Tupy, age 90, of Fort Atkinson, died Friday, May 13, 2016, at Wellington Place, in Decorah.
Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson, with the Rev. Nick March officiating. Jeanette Dietzenbach was organist and Cindy Schissel was soloist, and St. John’s Choir also sang. Hymns include: “Be Not Afraid,” “Amazing Grace,” “Only A Shadow” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Mass servers are Ed Langreck and Jack Herold. Lector is Judy Kuisle. Eucharistic ministers are Dick Nienhaus, Judy Ott and Ann Herold. Casket bearers are Gary Tupy, Bob Tupy, Larry Engen, Joe Bouska, Dale Engen and Don Koudelka. Honorary casket bearers are Don Schantz, Jerry Bouska, Roger Ondrashek, Judy Kuisle, Kevin Ondrashek, Mary Teslow and Lowell Vsetecka. Military rites are by U.S. Army Turkey River VFW Post #3902 and Huber Steffes American Legion Post #672. Interment is at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, with Schluter-Balik Funeral Home Chekal Chapel, Fort Atkinson.
Alvin William Tupy was born Aug. 6, 1925, the son of William and Viola (Huber) Tupy, on the farm near Fort Atkinson. Alvin attended country school and St. John’s Catholic School. He farmed with his family before entering the Army. He served in Germany from 1950 through 1952. Alvin returned to Iowa and farmed with his family until retiring in 1990. Alvin always cared deeply for the land and conserving the wild flowers. He was active all of his life and was known for having a great memory. He could always remember family history, dates and recipes. Alvin enjoyed making wine and caring for his animals. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with everyone. He was never one to complain about anything. Alvin was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, the Turkey River VFW Post #3902 and the Huber Steffes American Legion Post #672.
Alvin is survived by his three siblings: Linus (Rose) Tupy of Fort Atkinson, Doris (friend, Philip Severson) Engen of Decorah, and George (Shirley) Tupy of Fort Atkinson; nieces and nephews: Norma (Jim) Coolidge, Eau Claire, Wis., Pat (Ron) Krivachek of Fort Atkinson, Judy (Joe) Kuisle of Stewartville, Minn., Donna (Bruce) Meyer of Goodhue, Minn., Bob (Joan) Tupy of Calmar, Gary Tupy of Fort Atkinson, Sharon (Dave) Hackman of Fort Atkinson, Larry (Donna Quam) Engen of Decorah, Dale Engen of Ridgeway, Mary (Ron) Teslow of Decorah, and Greg (Lisa) Engen of Decorah; along with many great nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents: William and Viola (Huber) Tupy; a brother: Donald Tupy; a brother-in-law: Gordon Engen; two nephews: Tom Engen and Jim Tupy; and one great nephew: Zach Wisher.
