Big Canoe Lutheran Church of rural Decorah will host a benefit walk Saturday, May 8 for rural Decorah resident Phyllis Maroushek. Maroushek has recently been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing medical treatment.
The fundraising walk, scheduled for 10 a.m., will begin at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, 1381 Big Canoe Road and proceed to Highlandville. A silent auction and grab-n-go hot dog lunch will follow until 12:30 p.m.
Family and friends of Maroushek invite the public to purchase “Maroushek Tough, Phyllis Strong” T-shirts for support during this time. T-shirts may be ordered at https://maroushekstrong.itemorder.com/sale, an email to info@letterwerks.com or by calling (563) 382-2634. T-shirt donation cost is $20, with both adult and youth sizing available. The ordering deadline is Wednesday, April 28.
Maroushek and spouse, Bob, are the caretakers of Big Canoe Lutheran Church and cemetery grounds. “The Marousheks are hard workers that would help anyone that needed a hand,” said church officials. “Let’s show our support.”
Maroushek also is employed by Anundsen Publishing Company and Decorah Newspapers.
