Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum in Decorah recently purchased the former Northeast Iowa Montessori School building in a continuing effort to support its folk art education programs and operations.

Luther raises $1.2 million at annual ‘Giving Day’

Luther College raised more than $1.2 million during the ninth annual Giving Day on March 7. The money raised will support and enhance the Luther experience at the college through the Luther Fund, Luther’s unrestricted current fund that supports all students, faculty, staff and community endeavors on campus.

Vikings come up short in overtime at State 3A Basketball Tourney

The matchups are set for the Iowa high school boys basketball tournament, and the top-seeded #1 Decorah Vikings took on #8 Williamsburg in 3A tournament action March 4 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Vikings came out on top, 66-42, to advance to the state semi-finals on Thursday afternoon, March 6. The Vikes lost to Davenport Assumption in Thursday’s semi-finals, 61-53.

Brown to give Price Distinguished Lecture at Luther March 13

Lydia X. Z. Brown, director of public policy at the National Disability Institute, will give the Price Distinguished Lecture in Women’s Leadership at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the Center for Faith and Life Recital Hall. The event is co-sponsored by Minnesota Public Radio.

Luther’s Osterholm receives AMA award

Dr. Michael Osterholm, Luther College Class of 1975, was presented with the Outstanding Government Service Award from the American Medical Association in February.

Emerald ash borer infestation alert issued

City Forester Sam Hogenson, in partnership with the City of Decorah Tree Board, is requesting Decorah residents help identify ash trees on their property. Over 400 ash trees have been removed from the City’s boulevards due to endemic emerald ash borer (EAB) infestation. Many ash trees had been planted to replace the American elms which were devastated by Dutch elm disease.
