P&Z approves Anundsen building rehabilitation

The end goal for the building is to house 10 residential apartments on the second floor, and the 8,600 sq. ft. main level will be used as commercial space. According to Koester, apartments will include two studio apartments, five one-bedroom units, and three two-bedroom units, ranging from 550 to 1,100 sq. ft. in size.

Club 45’s Hansen addresses Decorah City Council on flag policy

Monday’s council meeting opened to a nearly full house of community members and residents who turned out to hear and speak on numerous topics. Club 45 head, Thomas Hansen came forth to address the council regarding the recent incident where Hansen was charged with violating city code when he affixed a Gadsden flag, which reads “Don’t Tread on Me” to the light pole in front of Club 45 in downtown Decorah.

Fravel murder trial change of venue request pending after April 30 hearing

Adam Fravel, a Mabel, Minn., native, appeared in a Winona County, Minn., courtroom Tuesday, April 30, to hear arguments regarding his request for change of venue for his pending murder trial in the March 2023 death of his on-and-off girlfriend and mother of their two young children, Madeline Kingsbury.

Mindy Jones trial for check theft, forgery slated for Aug. 5 in Fillmore County

Mindy Jones is currently sitting in a Shakopee, Minn., prison after being found guilty in early April of theft by swindle. As she is behind bars, Jones faces more charges for check forgery, theft by swindle and theft by check.

Mindy Jones dubbed ‘habitual violator’ by sentencing judge, now behind bars in Minnesota prison

At the sentencing, Jones’ lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Graham Henry, shared a lengthy plea with the court, “I think it’s important for the court to know a little bit about Miss Jones as (the court is) here now to sentence her for something terrible … something that has had an impact on many people’s lives, is still having an impact, and likely will have an impact in the long term.”

Each of the three buildings would be painted different colors. Ulring explained the three colors selected for the façades were inspired by Norwegian wharfs like Bergen and Trondheim.
